Despite its original goal to offer the world's poorest children a $100 laptop that ran free, open-source, tinkerable software, One Laptop per Child is adding the Microsoft Windows operating system to its XO laptops. The easily recognizable green laptops will also continue to host Linux.

Intel rolls out 16-processors for laptops, desktops, servers

At the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show being held this week in Las Vegas, Intel Corp. rolled out 16 processors which use the chip giant’s hafnium-based high-k metal gate formula and 45 nm manufacturing process for better performance and reduce power. The rollout includes Intel’s first 45 nm processors for Intel Centrino-based laptops.

Responding to recent style-based moves from Dell, HP, and Apple that target consumer personality with glossy, color-cased laptops, China-based Lenovo is banking its “Idea” branded consumer PC move on a combination of fashion and technology, hoping to win a larger share of the PC market with flashier notebooks and features including face recognition technology.
